OVERVIEW:

Situated just 2km North East of Kota Kinabalu, the 24 hectares of mangrove forest that once existed extensively along the coastal region of Kota Kinabalu. Kota Kinabalu Bird Sanctuary is not only a strategic situated environmental education centre serving both local and international visitors interested in wetland flora and fauna. The centre is an important refuge and feeding ground for many species of resident birds, as well as several migratory bird species from Northern Asia. Apart from providing shelter and food for both resident and migratory species of wildlife, wetlands also prevent salt build up in surrounding freshwater supplies, establishing sedimentation, storing nutrients and removing toxin.
