OVERVIEW:

Located 40 km and about an hour by boat rides from Sandakan Harbor. In the 1920s, Martin and Osa Johnson took the first pictures of the rare Proboscis Monkey here. In 1937, the Johnson's made two films - "Jungle Depths of Borneo" (lecture film) and "BORNEO" (20th Century Fox Film Corporation, the Johnsons last adventure together, narrated by journalist Lowell Thomas after Martin's death in a plane crash in California. He was enroute to edit and premier this film.

DAY 1

Pick up from hotel in Sandakan at 0810 hours or meet upon arrival at the Sandakan Airport (preferably on MH2042 ETA0845hrs). Drive for approximately 30 minutes to Sepilok Orang Utan Rehabilitation Center. Proceed to the free roaming area feeding platform. At this center, observe man’s closest relative “the Orang Utan” being rehabilitated to become wild in their natural habitat and experience a walk in the Tropical Lowland Dipterocarp Forest of Borneo. Depart Sepilok and transfer to jetty in Sandakan. Take an hour boat cruise up to the Lower Kinabatangan River Sanctuary where you will take your lunch at Abai Jungle Restaurant. After Lunch, free and relax at nature boardwalk before cruising for searching other wildlife’s. After dinner, a night cruise lead you to witness the nature of fireflies as Christmas tree, overnight Abai Jungle Lodge. (L,D).

DAY 2

Wake up by the calls of nature. Early morning take a river trip to the Pitas Lake to observe wildlife and experience the unique of Pitas Lake. After breakfast, an option to join tree planting project with the locals and lunch with them at Abaci village. This project especially to help the locals. Overnight at Abai Jungle Lodge.  (B,L,D).

DAY 3

In the morning, you are free to view more birds/wildlife and enjoy a cup of coffee at nature boardwalk. After breakfast, take another one-hour boat cruise back to Sandakan. Upon arrival at jetty, drive up hill to the Puh Jih Syh Chinese Buddhist Temple, which offers a panoramic view of the Sandakan Bay before lunch at local restaurant or hotel. Transfer to airport for your flight MH 2709 ETD1415hrs or hotel.  (B,L)

Insect repellent, raincoat (umbrella not recommended), hat, binocular and sun screen (sweat proof). Use good walking shoes and comfortable cotton T-shirt with long or short pant.
