OVERVIEW:

Home of one of the worlds oldest and largely unspoilt rainforests, you can’t fail to see the attraction of Borneo. There are over 15,000 species of flowering plants with 3,000 species of trees, 221 species of terrestrial mammals and 420 species of resident birds in Borneo. The most famous resident of the vast jungle being the endangered Borneo orangutan for which this is their only natural habitat left on Earth. It is one thing to see an orangutan in the zoo, but when you come face to face with one of these majestic creatures in their natural habitat it is a truly memorable experience.

 
ITINERARY:

DAY 1

Pick up from Lahad Datu early in the morning. An hour’s drive through gravel road to Tabin Wildlife Reserve. Briefing and check in upon arrival. Visit Lipad Mud Volcano in the afternoon. Explore the area known to be frequently visited by deer, wild boars, elephants and bids. Look out for and identify the amazing footprints of animals. Those adventurous can experiment the effect of the volcanic mud said to be responsible for fine complexion. Dinner followed by a night animal spotting trip to observe nocturnal wildlife and birds.  (L, D).

 

DAY 2

Breakfast at the lodge before trek through the lush green jungle known for its rich diversity of plants and animal species to visit Lipad’s Waterfall. Take a dip in the natural pool and enjoy the refreshing splash coming down from the waterfall. Alternatively explore the surrounding vegetation or just relax. At dusk, go for bird watching within the reserve. After dinner, night activities to look out for nocturnal wildlife and birds. (B,L,D).

DAY 3

After breakfast, walk to the nearby rock pool.  Choose to take a dip in the water or simply immerse yourself in nature. After lunch, depart Tabin Wildlife Reserve to Lahad Datu. From here, drive for about two hours through selectively logged forest, cocoa and soft-wood plantations before arriving the Borneo Rainforest Lodge beside the Danum River on the edge of 438 Sq Km of undisturbed lowland rainforest. The lodge is home to a full range of Sabah’s lowland fauna, including the rare Sumatran Rhino, Borneo Pygmy elephants, Clouded leopards, and Orang utans. Explore nature trail and nearby river. After dinner,  enjoy a slide show followed by night animal spotting. (B,L, D)

 

 

DAY 4

Early morning bird walk before breakfast. Spend the whole day exploring the forest for birds and mammals, leading up to an escarpment with ancient burial coffins. Trek to waterfall and dip in refreshing rock pools. Lunch at the lodge. 1500 hrs jungle walks through trails leading to canopy walkway. (B,L,D)

 

DAY 5

Morning trek in search of mammals and birds. Return to the lodge for lunch before departing for Lahad Datu airport for your flight to Kota Kinabalu.  (B,L)
